Response to Blog Question 6
1.) Yes, I believe the allusions Didion used in her literature does have an effect on the reader. The allusions she uses changes the way they reader understands the writing. In my opinion it was both helpful and alienating. There were certain allusions I did comprehend which allowed me to understand the text better but there was also allusions that hindered me from knowing the concept like "pins in a babies diaper" that allusion threw me left field.
2.) "To have a sense of ones intrinsic worth which constitutes self respect is potentially to have everything; the ability to discriminate to love and to remain indifferent.", "self respect is discipline, the habit of mind that can never be faked but can be developed, trained, coaxed fourth." I believe that both these statements are based on assumptions that I can personally agree with. One the other hand I totally disagree with her perception on committing adultery and keeping it a secret. I say this with all respect and give credit to my morals for reasoning.
3.) I think they are both connected because just as self respect is a discipline or habit of mind so is the process of building writing skills. You must discipline your self in order to become successful and stay on track making it a habitat to improve your writing skills with discipline just as you would self respect.
